1.5 HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
Many firms have wind up because of
various structural adjustment there is no doubt that the present people’s
predicament is caused by political maladministration and misappropriation of
the public funds.
This political maladjustment and
misappropriation of public funds has lead to mass retrenchment of workers in
ministries. This miserable exercise has
caused a lot of disorders like separation between husbands and wives because
the husband has no money to feed the wife and children.
No sound education for the children
because the father’s appointment has been terminated. Many retrenched people have lost their lives
in hunger because there was no one to care for them, even some of them thought
that there was nothing they could do in their lives again and went to commit
suicide. In addition, the embargo placed
on job opportunities by the federal Government is the major cause of
unemployment. Most of our schools are
short-staffed while many qualified and trained teachers are jobless. Even in other ministries and government
establishments there are vacancies supposed to be filled but left
unfilled. Despite the presence of
numerous qualified and capable personnel.
In fact this embargo placed on the
importation of certain goods serving as raw materials for various firms and
plants added more to this unemployment and the possible ways by which the
situation could be arrested.
